Wait for a stable weight
Surgeons want your weight steady before they plan anything, usually for some months; ask how long yours looks for. Weight going up or down after the operation stretches the skin again and changes the breast. If you've had weight-loss surgery, your surgeon may also check your general health and nutrition first.

Why the skin behaves differently
Skin that has been stretched for years doesn't spring back. After major weight loss it's often thinner and less elastic, so the lifted breast can drop again sooner. A surgeon may use a larger lift, with an anchor-shaped scar, to remove more skin.
Volume
Weight loss takes fat from the breasts as well as everywhere else, so many people want some volume back. That means implants or, for a smaller change, fat transfer. A lift with implants costs from about €9,500 in Ireland.
Other loose skin
Many people after major weight loss have loose skin on the tummy, arms or thighs too. Combining operations means one recovery but a longer anaesthetic and a higher risk of complications; many surgeons stage them. Ask what they'd do first, and why.
Is it right for you?
A breast lift isn't for you yet if:
- you're still breastfeeding, or stopped in the last six months
- you plan more children
- your weight is still going down or up
- you smoke and won't stop at least six weeks before
Questions people ask
How long after weight loss can I have a breast lift?
When your weight has been stable for some months. Ask your surgeon how long they look for.
Will I need implants after weight loss?
Not always, but many people want some volume back. A lift alone doesn't add size.
Does a breast lift last as long after weight loss?
It can relax sooner, because the skin is less elastic.
Can I have other loose skin removed at the same time?
Sometimes, but combining raises the risks. Many surgeons stage it.
